Biography

Mikhail Shchigol was born in Chelyabinsk, Russian Federation. He graduated from the Kiev National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture and Urban Design at the Moscow University of Architecture. Already at that time he devoted himself systematically to architecture, sculpture and painting.

Since 1969 he has organized solo exhibitions and presents his art: Ukraine, Czechoslovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovak Republic, USA, Austria, Italy, Belgium. To date, it is 90 solo exhibitions, the most important of which: the seat of the European Parliament in Brussels 2008, Andy Warhol Museum 1991,2005, 2016, Parliament of the Czech Republic 2004, Museum of Modern Art of Ukraine in Kiev 2011, Art-center Odessa 2011, St. Vita in Prague 2011. Since 1970 he has been a member of the Union of Architects of Ukraine. In 1993 he was admitted to the Union of Fine Artists of the Czech Republic and is a member of the International Association of Art UNESCO. Since 1988 the artist has devoted himself exclusively to painting. It forms extensive cycles of a total of about 690 paintings. Mikhail Ščigol is one of the prominent personalities of the contemporary Czech art scene. His work is based on European Expressionism. It connects the modern art of the West with the Byzantine culture of the Eastern Slavs.
